In Kundalini Yoga mantras are an integral part of every yoga class. They are sung, chanted in a monotone or chanted internally. There are also many people within and outside the yoga community who enjoy listening to such mantra songs during the course of their days as a source of inspiration and to calm and soothe the mind and heart.  

 

With one exception (noted below) the explanatory texts for the mantras were taken from the liner notes for the CD Mantras of the Master (Highland Park, California: Luna Records 2007). 

 

Aad Guray Nameh

 

Ad Guray Nameh, jugaad guray nameh Sat guray nameh, siree guroo dayv-ay nameh

 

I bow to the primal wisdom, I bow to the wisdom true through the ages 

I bow to the true wisdom, I bow to the great unseen wisdom

 

For centering and protection.  Can be chanted after the Adi Mantra (Ong Namo) before practicing yoga.  Also can be chanted for protection before you start your car.

Ajai Alai

 

Ajai alai                         Invincible.  Indestructible.

Abhai Abai                    Fearless.   Everywhere.

Abhoo Ajoo                   Unborn.   Forever.

Anaas Akaas                Indestructible.   Within everything.

Agunj Abhunj                Invincible.   Indivisible.

Alukh Abhukh               Invisible.   Free from wants. 

Akaal Dyaal                  Immortal.   Kind.

Alayk Abhaykhe            Unimaginable.   Formless.

Anaam Akaam              Unnameable.   Free from desires.

Agaahaa Adhaahaa      Unfathomable.   Undamageable.

Anaatay Parmaatay      Without a master.   Destroyer of all. 

Ajonee Amonee            Beyond birth and death.   Beyond silence. 

Na Raagay Na Rungay  More than love itself.    Beyond all colors.

Na Roopay Na Raykay  Formless.  Beyond chakras. 

Akaramung Abharamung  Beyond karma.     Beyond doubt. 

Aganjay Alaykhay           Beyond battles.     Unimaginable. 

 

This is from Guru Gobind Singhs Jaap Sahib, which rouses the soul and the self.  This brings great sensitivity to the Being and gives the ability to be able to compute what people are actually saying automatically.  Once you recite this mantra correctly, it will give you the power that whatever you say must happen.  When you chant this mantra you have the power to surpass anything.

Adi Shakti (Kundalini Bhakti Mantra)

 

Adee shaktee, adee shaktee, adee shaktee, namo, namo

Sarab shaktee, sarab shaktee, sarab shaktee, namo, namo

Pritham bhagavatee, pritham bhagavatee, pritham bhagavatee, namo, namo

Kundaleenee, maataa shaktee, maataa shaktee, namo, namo

 

I bow to (or call on) the primal power.

I bow to (or call on) the all encompassing power and energy.

I bow to (or call on) that through which God creates. 

I bow to (or call on) the creative power of the Kundalini, the Divine Mother Power. 

 

This mantra invokes the primal feminine creative power, or mother power.

Ardas Bhaee  

 

Ardaas bhaee, amar daas guroo, amar daas guroo, ardaas bhaee

Raam daas guroo, raam daas guroo, raam daas guroo, sachee saee

 

Guru Amar Das will grant your prayer.  Guru Ram Das guarantees it will be answered.  

 

This mantra and prayer will help you go through a difficult situation and without having to say what you want the prayer to resolve the block will be answered.

Bountiful Blissful Beautiful  (I am I am)

 

I am bountiful.

I am blissful.

I am beautiful.

I am.  I am.

Repeat.

 

Bountiful, blissful and beautiful I am.

Repeat 3X.

 

These words, which are part of a longer mantra called the Song of Bliss, elevate the self beyond duality and establish the flow of spirit.  

 

Chatra Chakra Varti

 

Chatra chakra vartee chatra chakra bhugatay

Suyambhay subhang sarab daa sarab jugatay

Dukaalang pranaasee d-i-aalang saroopay 

Sadaa ang sangay abhangang bibhootay

 

Thou art pervading in all the four directions, the Enjoyer in all the four directions. 

Thou art self-illumined and united with all.

Destroyer of bad times, embodiment of mercy. 

Thou art ever within us.  Thou art the everlasting giver of indestructible power. 

 

These are the last four lines of Jaap Saahib of Guru Gobind Singh.  The mantra removes fear, anxiety, depression, and brings victory.

Dhan Dhan Ram Das Gur 

 

Dhan dhan raam daas gur jin siri-aa tinai savaari-aa

Pooree hoee karaamaal aap sirajanakaarai dhaari-aa

Skhee atai sangatee paarabrahm kar namasakaari-aa

Atal athaa-o atoltootayraa ant na paaraavaari-aa 

Jinee too sayvi-aa bhaa-o kar say tudh paar utaari-aa

Lab lobh kaam drodh mo maar kadhay tudh saparavaari-aa

Dhan so tayraa thaan hai sach tayraa paisakaari-aa

Naanak too lahanaa toohai gur amar too veechaari-aa

Gur dithaa taaman saadhaari-aa

 

Blessed, blessed is Guru Raam Daas; He who created You has also exalted You 

Perfect is Your miracle; the Creator Lord Himself has installed You on the throne. 

The Sikhs and all the Congregation recognize You as the Supreme Lord God, and bow down to You.

You are unchanging, unfathomable and immeasurable; You have no end or limitation.  

Those who serve You with love  You carry them across.

Greed, envy, sexual desire, anger and emotional attachment  You have beaten them and driven them out. 

Blessed is Your place, and True is Your magnificent glory. 

You are Nanak, You are Angad, and You are Amar Daas; so do I recognize You.

When I saw the guru, then my mind was comforted and consoled.  

 

This Sikh prayer or shabd is in praise Guru Ram Das who is able to manifest miracles.  By chanting this prayer, miracles will happen in your life.

Gobinday Mukanday (Guru Gaitri Mantra)

 

Gobinday mukanday udaaray apaaray, hareeang kareeang nirnaamay akaamay

 

Sustainer.  Liberator. Enlightener. Infinite.  Destroyer. Creator. Nameless. Desireless. 

 

These are the eight attributes of God.  It can eliminate karmic blocks, and clears the subconscious as well as giving compassion and patience.

Sat Narayan (Chotay Pad Mantra)  

 

Sat naraayan wahay guroo, haree naraayan sat naam

 

Sat naraayan means true sustainer.  Wahe Guru is the mantra of ecstasy.  Hari is the name of God.  Sat Nam means Truth is His name. 

 

Chanting this mantra gives inner peace, happiness and prosperity, and the capacity to look beyondthis world to realize the Infinite.
